We’re Joel and Angie, the husband-and-wife team behind The Dogwood Canine Lodge.

Our lifelong connection to animals runs deep, Joel’s beginning on a family farm caring for animals of all kinds, and Angie’s through more than a decade of dedicated volunteer work, multiple foster placements, and hands-on experience supported by her medical background. Together, those paths have shaped a shared commitment to understanding animal behavior, building trust, and providing thoughtful, individualized care.

Joel holds a degree in psychology and has spent years in human caregiving and management roles, including adult foster care and insurance claims leadership. Angie brings extensive volunteer service, practical medical insight, and a calm, intuitive presence with dogs of all temperaments. Our combined experience strengthens our attention to detail, sense of responsibility, and compassion in everything we do.

Between us, we’ve devoted hundreds of hours to local shelters and animal-care organizations, giving us a unique perspective on dogs with all types of needs and personalities. We were honored to receive the 2025 Humane Hero Award from the Humane Society of West Michigan.

At The Dogwood, our goal is simple: to offer a peaceful, nurturing environment where every dog feels safe, cared for, and truly at home.
